For P1 registration or a school transfer, both parents must jointly agree on the school to register your child in or the application to transfer.

If you cannot agree, your child's application may be delayed. This could cause your child to miss the registration period or lose the school place.

If you cannot agree, you may need to apply to the Family Justice Courts or the Syariah Court for a court order on who can make decisions about your child's education.

For P1 registration, MOE recommends applying for a court order at least 3 months before registration opens. For example, if P1 registration starts in June, you should submit your application for a Court Order by March.

When preparing your Parenting Plan or Ancillary Matters orders, include who will make decisions about your child's education. This can help prevent disagreements later.

If there is no agreement before the P1 registration or school transfer deadline, neither parent can proceed with your child's P1 registration or school transfer. MOE may place your child in a school with available vacancies. Your child may also have to stay in their current school instead of transferring.

Planning and agreeing early gives your child the best chance of continuing their education without unnecessary disruption.

Your child needs stability during this period. By discussing and agreeing on education matters early, you can help your child continue learning with as little disruption as possible.
